Welcome to Learning Out Loud

Learning Out Loud is a place for people who are actively trying to take back control over their lives  from wherever they lost it and make some big changes in the world around them.  There are dozens of reasons for wanting to make a change — a big change.  Maybe you’re fed up with selling your time to a job that you don’t really like.  Tired of being told everyday what to do, how to do it, when or where to do it for reasons you have long ago stopped believing.  Or being finished with one chapter of life and deciding to take charge of writing the next.  Maybe it’s discovering that in order to start doing whatever you want to do you’re going to need some help.

Maybe you have heard once too often someone say “.. in America you can do anything you want to do if you just put your mind to it”.  And you find yourself thinking it’s not OK anymore to feel like that statement doesn’t include you.  You might even have said it to your kids and then in a private moment tried to figure out at what point in your own life you gave up on believing it yourself.

Learning Out Loud is where you will find people who are not satisfied with life’s standard set of options.  It’s a place where people tell stories about how they began making their own rules and making their living in ways not listed on the menu or in the local community college catalog.  You will sit down with a community of entrepreneurs who realize that the new “Green” economy, the new jobs that President Obama talks about, and the “change” that is supposed to be coming our colleges don’t yet know how to teach and our government isn’t going to let us vote on it.  Change will be about our finding new ways to learn and new ways to work and new ways to govern — on our own.

You are invited to join a community of learners and activists.  All you need to join is a story — your story.  Learning Out Loud is for people who have decided it’s important to do what they love to do and to make room for themselves in our schools, in our workplaces, and in our government.   Go to the Blog and tell your story about learning and doing and making change.  Hopefully you’ll meet people who can help you or who need your help.
